Racial Pigmentation

 

Clinical features

Brown (rarely black) pigmentation, especially of the gingiva.

Aetiology

Racial pigmentation is seen not only in coloured patients, but also in some whites, especially those from the Mediterranean region.

Incidence

Common: the main cause of oral pigmentation.

Diagnosis

– Differentiate from other causes of pigmentation.

Management

– Reassure.Racial pigmentation
