Necrotising Sialometaplasia

 

Clinical features

The initial lesion is a nodular swelling usually seen in the posterior part of the hard palate that later leads to a painful craterlike ulcer with irregular border.

Incidence

Rare.

Aetiology

Unknown.

Biopsy is often required to differentiate from malignant salivary gland tumours and squamous cell carcinoma.

Management

Reassurance. The lesions usually heal spontaneously without treatment over 4 to 10 weeks.Necrotising sialometaplasia
